Install on WordPress
Upload the plugin, paste one key, and the agent is live on your site.
What you need
The Ampa plugin file (a .zip) and your site key. Your site key looks like ampa_ followed by
letters and numbers. Both are on the install step at ampa.chat/start, where you set your account
up, and in the email that step sends you.
Steps
- In WordPress, go to Plugins, then Add New, then Upload Plugin. Choose the .zip and activate it.
- Go to Settings, then Ampa Chat.
- Paste your site key. Leave the endpoint exactly as it is.
- Save. The chat appears on the front of your site straight away.
That is the whole install. There is nothing to configure in a dashboard first, and no code to add to your theme.
What else is on that screen
Operator token. Paste this and a second screen appears in your admin, called Ampa Copilot, where you can ask about your own leads. It is optional, and it is not the same as the site key: the site key is public by design, the operator token is a password and is never shown again once saved.
Enabled. Turn the widget off across the whole site without uninstalling.
Teaser text. The short line that appears beside the chat bubble before anyone opens it.
Hide on these paths. One path per line. Cart, checkout and account pages are already excluded for you, including on WooCommerce where those pages are detected properly even if you renamed or translated them.
Is the site key a secret?
No. It is printed into your page on purpose, the same way a Google Analytics tag is. Knowing it lets someone start a chat with your agent, which any visitor to your site can already do. It authorises nothing else. Your real credentials never leave our server, and no AI provider key is ever stored on your WordPress site.
Updating
Updates arrive as a new plugin version. Install it the same way you installed the first one. Your site key and settings survive the update.
If the widget does not appear
Check that Enabled is ticked, that the page you are looking at is not in the excluded paths, and that you are not on a cart or checkout page. If your site sends a Content Security Policy, see Troubleshooting.
